Sex toy manufacturers call their products adult novelties for a reason.  They don’t think of their products as brands, or objects of beauty and desire, so much as the latest plastic toy that everyone wants one week and no one can remember the next.  The biggest manufacturers are the worst offenders, putting catalogs of hundreds of “new” products out each year, which when you look carefully amount to the same crap in different colors sometimes with minor modifications.

This is one of the ways the Hitachi Magic Wand was a different kind of sex toy from the beginning.  People already knew Hitachi.   So their iconic “massager,” which has been a bestseller for decades in better quality sex shops, benefitted not only from the zealous sex store clerks (like myself) who sang its praises, but from the halo of a quality brand in a sea of “novelties.”

The product remained the same for years.  It underwent minor modifications (and, ironically, the brand name Hitachi was dropped) recently under the guidance of Vibratex.

And now Vibratex has spearheaded another Magic Wand innovation, freeing users from the plug.

Magic Wand Rechargeable Inside and Out
The rechargeable version of the Magic Wand looks and feels similar to the original.  The wand measures 13” and the head is 2.4” in diameter.  It doesn’t feel exactly the same in your hand in terms of weight and balance, but it’s similar, and for those who want the convenience of cord free vibrator use, the difference is minor.

The vibrator has four speeds and four vibration patterns, controlled by two easy to use push buttons beneath the power button.  The vibration doesn’t feel exactly the same as the plug in model (the best way I can describe it, is that the rechargeable model is less “thumpy.”  One of the most noticeable differences is the material that the head is made from.  The rechargeable head is made from silicone, and doesn’t have the texture or the seam of the original plug in Hitachi.  Some people will like this and others might miss the texture (the silicone is completely smooth).

An appreciated function of the rechargeable model is that it’s “plug and play” you can use it while the device is plugged in and charging.

It takes about 3 hours to fully charge and runs for about 3 hours on a single charge. Vibratex backs the rechargeable wand with the same 1 year warranty they offer with the original Magic Wand.

Bottom Line
The Magic Wand Rechargeable is a long overdue and welcome addition to the Magic Wand vibrator brand.  If you’re looking for a powerful cordless vibrator, it’s a great choice, multifunctional, well made, and fun to use.  Magic Wand loyalists may be disappointed that it doesn’t perfectly match the experience of the plug-in model, and they may balk at fact that the rechargeable model is more than twice the price of the plug-in model.  But judged on its own merits, this is a highly recommended product.
